We
get many artists and amateur photographers at the center
using our birds as subject material. However, we also
have worked with various professional photographers and
filmmakers, who find our birds provide some unique opportunities
for close up and action shots, that would otherwise be
difficult or impossible to obtain.
Because our birds are captive-bred and are handled
and flown on an almost daily basis, and as they live
at a visitor center where they are continually
exposed to people, they are confident birds around
people. This makes them especially good subjects for
media work, where the exposure to people, cameras, lights
and assorted activities that might stress many birds
are of little, if any, concern to our raptors.
As a result, some of our trained birds have been featured
in films – watch out for Gandalf when the Steven
King movie “Riding the Bullet” is released
– as well as on calendars, in magazines, and on
websites. The birds and the work they do are also of
considerable general interest in themselves, and they
have thus also been featured in quite a variety of local
television news programs, as well as in the newspapers,
and in magazines. |
