Schools & Educational programs
The Pacific Northwest Raptors visitor centre offers a range of unique educational and close-up experiences suitable to children and adults.
A typical group or school program includes a 30 minute tour of the facility and a 30 minute flying demonstration with at least three different raptor species. The tour covers many raptosr, with the interpreters discussing raptor biology and ecology. The demo allows groups to watch the birds fly above their heads, demonstrating their flying and hunting skills. All interpreters are trained and experienced in bird handling and the biology of raptors, and encourage all questions! It is a fantastic educational opportunity that encourages students and adults alike to become more aware of the environment and how to help protect it in the future.
| Tour | Demo |
| 10:45 | 11:30* |
| 12:45 | 1:30 (preferred) |
| 2:45 | 3:30* |
* $100 min group rate applies
If your group is interested in focusing on a certain type of raptor, Pacific Northwest Raptors is happy to change the focus of the tour. The centre can do 30 minute or longer educational talk or presentation on just about anything related to birds of prey. For example, if your class is studying owls, they can give your class an owl talk (instead of the standard tour), focusing on owls. PNWR has a variety of excellent teaching tools as a supplement (to real owls) including skeletons and feathers. Please inquire if you are interested in trying something different than the tour.
Grounds are landscaped primarily with native plants, including ponds and wetlands, and a number of picnic tables are available for snacks/lunch. There is a small gift store and a washroom.
Please call well in advance as the centre books up quickly!
Groups
The raptor centre is not just fun for schools, it's great for groups of all kinds. The centre has hosted weddings, reunions, photography groups, business groups, large families etc. Standard group programs include a 30 minute tour and 30 minute demonstration, similar to the school group programs, but catered towards the specific group you are bringing. Group programs can be tailed to suit your needs, so please inquire if you would like to book something special for your group. Smaller groups can also do short hands-on experiences (less than 10 people).
For tour and demo times, please see Schools and Educational programs above.
