Kids Education
ATTENTION: All Teachers
Pacific Northwest Raptors is a bird of prey and falconry center offering a wide range of unique educational and close-up experiences with raptors of all kinds. Located in the Cowichan Valley, we currently have many types of birds of prey and the number and variety is growing. The birds are housed in natural woodland and agricultural settings and are on view to the public. The majority of BC’s raptors are represented including a number of owls.
Our facility is located approx. 8 minutes drive from Duncan, easily accessed from the Trans Canada highway. The trails of the centre are landscaped primarily with natural vegetation and the flying area includes a pond and wetland. Picnic tables are available for snacks/lunch and there is a small gift shop for refreshments and a washroom. (We are building a handicap washroom that will be completed soon)
A school visit will include a guided tour of the centre (approx ½ hour duration) followed by a flying demonstration in which we free-fly at least three different species of raptor. We demonstrate the history of falconry, and modern falconry techniques, as well as interpreting their flight, hunting behavior and other aspects of their ecology and life cycle. We provide unique opportunities to observe the birds and discuss them with the children. Educational groups can be accommodated any day.
We are working to keep costs for school groups as affordable as we can as we firmly believe in the power of education in order to see positive changes in the world.
